Job summary

The State of Indiana seeks a Correctional Officer at Pendleton Correctional Facility, a maximum-security site for adult males. You will work as part of a team during 12-hour shifts, ensuring security and the smooth operation of daily activities.

Expect a biweekly target of 85.75 hours across 7 shifts, including 1 weekend, with base pay plus a $2 differential. Salary details are provided with a compensation calculator opportunity; higher base pay may apply for relevant experience.

Qualifications

• At least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must possess a valid driver88s license.
• Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
• Must test negative on all drug screenings.
• Veteran/law enforcement candidates encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work with incarcerated individuals per DOC mission statement.
• Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime in any shift; up to 16 consecutive hours per day.
• Ability to understand and utilize chemical agents properly.
• Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear directions and report writing.
• Strong critical thinking skills and adaptability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain personal safety and the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals.
• Monitor assigned areas for security and count incarcerated individuals.
• Follow and enforce established security procedures.
• Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details and general cleanup.
• Escort incarcerated individuals to and from locations for meals, meds, work, and recreation.
• Keep records and reports on movements, activities, and rule violations.
• Search housing areas and visitors for contraband.
• Attend and work scheduled shifts as assigned.
