Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants on assigned shifts and acts as initial commander during emergencies.
• Plans, assigns, and coordinates post assignments and leave; ensures attendance reports are accurate.
• Supervises searches for contraband and inspections of buildings and grounds; conducts training and evaluations of staff.
• Oversees inmate housing, security, and movement; conducts head counts and escorts inmates as needed.
• Performs crisis intervention, uses approved force when necessary, and provides emergency response.
• Attends mandatory training and performs other related duties as required.
