The Missouri Department of Corrections is hiring corrections staff to maintain security, supervise offender activities, and ensure safety inside facilities. This role supports rehabilitation and community safety while offering stable state employment and strong benefits.

Hourly pay starts at $21.45 with a medium-security differential included; a $1,560 annual differential is listed for certain medium-security postings. Training and career growth are available through the department.

Aufgaben

• Maintain security in facilities, towers and posts and respond to emergencies
• Supervise offender movements inside and outside facilities and conduct counts
• Search offenders and living quarters for contraband
• Supervise housing unit activities and offender work/recreation/religious events
• Conduct health and safety inspections and report violations
• Discuss discipline issues with offenders and promote rehabilitation
• Supervise offender visits and search visitors/buildings for contraband
• Follow post orders and local regulations; perform other duties as assigned

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.

Hourly Pay: $21.45 (medium security differential included)

• Maintains security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervenes during emergencies or altercations and gains physical control of offenders
• Supervises movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conducts periodic counts of offenders; searches offenders and their living quarters for contraband; Escorts/transports offenders to predetermined locations
• Supervises offenders: in housing units; during the performance of work activities; during recreational/ religious activities
• Conducts inspections for health and safety hazards; prepares/submits reports on offender violations of divisional or correctional facility rules/unusual offender behaviors/observed mechanical deficiencies/ security breaches or failures
• Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender’s social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activities
• Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband
• Performs work in accordance with established rules/regulations/post orders/specific instructions; receives general administrative direction
• Performs other related work as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Special Requirements

• Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid\CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

By Assignment, a Position May Require

• Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
