Job summary

The Bureau of Indian Affairs seeks qualified individuals for a correctional officer role across Browning, MT and nearby communities, including Busby, Fort Washakie and Poplar. This is a bargaining unit position at GL-05 to GL-07, with diverse pathways based on education and experience.

Candidates will supervise and care for offenders, manage intake and transport, and maintain inmate records in a secure detention setting while following SOPs and emergency plans.

Qualifications

• Three years of general work experience.
• Bachelor's degree (120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) in any field.
• Combination of experience and education totaling 100% of the requirement.
• One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GL-06).
• Graduate education in criminal justice, criminology, social science, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and care for criminal offenders at a detention facility.
• Maintain documentation on inmates and supervise inmate movements.
• Assist with or perform inmate transport.
• Enforce SOPs and Emergency Management Plans; ensure security and accountability.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain safety in the facility.

Graduate study (criminal justice, criminology, social science)

Graduate education (18 semester hours/27 quarter hours)
