Job summary

The City of Philadelphia is seeking a General Duty Corrections Officer to maintain security and discipline in a City correctional facility. You will guard inmates, transport them to courts and between locations, and perform required tasks under close supervision.

Starting pay is $52,047 during training with raises to $63,758 and up to $75,562; a 20% hiring bonus is available. Benefits include health, life, retirement, and paid leave. Must be at least 20 and have PA driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Age 20 years or older at time of hire.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum experience: completion of the twelfth school grade and ability to physically perform duties in a demanding environment.

Position Overview

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary $52,047 during the training academy based on an 8‑hour shift. Upon graduation from the academy, the salary increases to $63,758 with potential to reach up to $75,562 based on a 12‑hour shift.

New employees are eligible for a hiring bonus of 20% of the starting salary: 10% upon graduation from academy and 10% after 12 months of satisfactory employment.
