Job summary

Salt Lake County Jail Medical Services is hiring a registered nurse to deliver primary medical care, treatment, and case management to inmates. The role involves comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, and collaboration with physicians to adjust care as needed.

This position requires Utah RN licensure or MSNC, or eligibility for Temporary RN Apprentice, plus background checks, drug testing, and tuberculosis screening.

Qualifications

• Requires active Utah licensure as RN or MSNC license.
• Alternatively, completion of accredited program and licensure as Temporary RN Apprentice (Utah).
• Background check via fingerprinting and RAP Back enrollment required.
• Must pass mandatory drug test prior to start; random testing possible.
• TB skin test required at hire; may involve ongoing testing.

Responsibilities

• Assess prisoners’ physical health by conducting exams and taking medical histories.
• Develop medical plans and prognoses based on patient condition.
• Consult with physicians to modify treatment plans as needed.
• Provide initial medical response in emergencies and perform triage.
• Perform invasive procedures within validated competence scope.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
• Administer medications and monitor for adverse interactions.
• Coordinate communication to ensure continuity of care across shifts.
• Provide health maintenance advice and case management to inmates.
