Job summary

Story County seeks a detention officer to supervise and assist in the custody, control, and welfare of individuals in a correctional facility. Under supervision, perform technical duties related to detention, commitment, and incarceration, reporting to Jail Administrators and a Detention Officer Supervisor.

Responsibilities include monitoring resident counts, conducting searches, escorting individuals, and preparing incident and disciplinary reports.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to high school graduation and completion of 40 hour jailer training within one year of hiring.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Monitor resident and visitor behavior to maintain correctional facility security, safety, and sanitation.
• Shakes down residents, visitors, facilities, and property to detect and deter contraband; conducts searches and reports findings.
• Escorts residents and visitors inside or outside the facility to ensure safety and compliance with rules; applies restraint equipment when needed.
