California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking a Correctional Counselor I at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, Monterey County. The role reports to the Correctional Counselor II Supervisor and entails interviewing incarcerated individuals, evaluating reports, and contributing to the classification process to protect the community and staff.

Under the direction of the Correctional Counselor II Supervisor (CCII) and indirect supervision of the Facility Captain (FC), the Correctional Counselor I (CCI) interviews the incarcerated person to gather information, reads, evaluates, reviews, and summarizes reports from a variety of sources to assist in classification of the incarcerated person. The CCI is responsible for the protection of the community, staff and incarcerated people through the classification process, incarcerated people counseling and through the enforcement of the facility policies, Rules and Regulations of the Director of Corrections, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations (CDCR) policies and procedures as stipulated in the California Code of Regulations Title 15, Department Operations Manual and any other applicable rules, law and regulations.
Individuals who are eligibile for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
