Job summary

Lake Land College seeks an instructor to teach Construction Occupations courses and labs within the Certificate program. The role includes developing course guides, selecting textbooks, and ordering instructional supplies in coordination with the dean and program administrators.

The educator will deliver classes per approved outlines, report attendance and grades, participate in faculty meetings, and assist with student registration and support services.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching construction trades.
  • Estimating practices knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or revise guides for courses offered in the division and submit for review.
  • Teach classes assigned by the Associate Dean and approved by the Vice President.
  • Submit textbook recommendations to the Associate Dean.
  • Submit purchase order requests for instructional materials to the Associate Dean.
  • Report attendance and grades as prescribed.
  • Attend faculty meetings called by administrators.
  • Be on site 37.5 hours per week with a 30 minute lunch.
  • Assist in registration as needed.
  • Assist students to meet needs or find help from college services.
  • Observe and enforce College regulations and report issues in writing.
  • Maintain inventory and control of flammable substances and caustics.
  • Maintain tools and keys on assignment.
  • Prepare EGGC forms, task lists and attendance reports.
  • Maintain hourly counts of students.
  • Assist institutional personnel during emergencies.

Description

Responsible for teaching courses and labs in the Construction Occupations Certificate program.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. In cooperation with other instructors concerned prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the appropriate Administrator for review.
  2. Teach classes assigned by the Associate Dean and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the College.
  3. In cooperation with other instructors concerned prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Associate Dean.
  4. Submit purchase order requests for instructional materials books required commodities and supplies to Associate Dean for approval.
  5. Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Associate Dean.
  6. Attend faculty meetings called by the administrative officers.
  7. Be on work site for 37.5 hours per week (30 minute lunch).
  8. Arrive at work site prior to beginning of established shift.
  9. Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
  10. Serve on such committees for the betterment of the College as may be established by the administration and faculty.
  11. Assist in registration as needed.
  12. Consider the general and special needs of the student. Assist students in meeting needs or solving problems when necessary seek additional help from other college services.
  13. Observe support and enforce the regulations policies and programs of the College and inform the President in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the College.
  14. Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  15. Notify the appropriate Administrator well in advance of absences.
  16. Maintain inventory and control of flammable and caustics.
  17. Maintain accurate control of tools and keys on assignment.
  18. Prepare EGGC forms task lists and attendance reports as required.
  19. Maintain hourly count check on students.
  20. Assist institutional personnel during emergency situations.
  21. Comply with Illinois Department of Corrections regulations and procedures.
  22. Maintain equipment assigned to area.
Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Associate Degree Preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Teaching Experience Desired. Experience in Construction Trades Required.

Knowledge:

  • Estimating Practices.

Skills:

  • Must be able to layout truss rafters, wall sections, hang windows and doors, perform drywall installation and finishing. Skills in masonry and electrical and plumbing required. Must have good communication skills.

  • Good Interpersonal Skills.
