Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Chaplain at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Somerset to lead interfaith services, provide counseling, and assist inmates with religious practice. You will support a diverse faith community, coordinate volunteers, and contribute to a respectful environment within the Religious Services Department.

The role requires at least two years of pastoral experience and a bachelor’s degree, with the possibility of equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional pastoral experience and a bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional pastoral experience.
• Documentation from an officially sanctioned faith group dated within one year of the application date
• Must complete the Correctional Chaplains Training Course within six months of hire
• Maintain credentials with an officially sanctioned faith group on an annual basis for the duration of employment

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct interfaith religious gatherings and administer sacraments
• Provide grief counseling and spiritual guidance to inmates
• Make non-routine visits to critically ill inmates and lead religious discussion groups
• Screen and distribute approved religious materials and support faith-related needs
• Participate in committees, review accommodation requests, and engage in interfaith events
• Recruit and train volunteers and orient visitors for religious programming
• Prepare reports, maintain records, and respond to information requests
