City of St. Louis is seeking a Correctional Case Worker in Downtown St. Louis, MO. This full-time role focuses on guiding inmates through counseling, case management, and access to community resources to support rehabilitation.
The position requires experience in corrections settings, an associated degree, and a willingness to engage in ongoing documentation and reporting. A hiring incentive of $1,500 is offered after probationary completion.
Incumbents in this position are responsible for providing guidance and support to inmates regarding institutional rules, behavior modification, personal issues, and access to available resources. Key duties include conducting interviews, evaluating and classifying inmates based on personal data, legal status, criminal history, and institutional adjustments, as well as reviewing case files to determine eligibility for programs, and maintaining detailed records.

This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500.00) upon completion of the probationary period.
The hiring incentive is not available to current City employees.
Three years’ experience in a correctional, parole and probation, or comparable setting, conducting casework services and investigations and preparing detailed reports for the purpose of program development and services of clients OR an Associate’s degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Social Services or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
A Bachelor’s degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Social Services or a closely related field AND/OR experience in substance abuse counseling or similar rehabilitative activities in community outreach programs or in a correctional environment.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. Only qualified applicants who provide proof of a valid driver’s license will be considered for this position.

City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
