Job summary

NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Corrections Case Manager (S) to perform classification reviews, assessments, and counseling for adult offenders. The role involves coordinating program referrals, housing guidance, and maintaining communications with staff and the public.

This is a full-time position at Central Prison in Raleigh, NC, with standard hours 8am-5pm and potential after-hours work to meet needs. A challenging, safety-focused environment is expected.

Qualifications

  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, offenders, and the general public under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular periodic classification reviews, needs assessments, plans, job assignments, program referrals and one-on-one counseling.
  • Provide transitional information, housing assistance, and classification recommendations during offender reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, offenders, and the public.
  • Work under stressful conditions with incarcerated individuals and provide crisis interventions including suicide prevention.
  • Prepare written reports reflecting data from interviews, documents and observations.
  • Possess flexibility to assist in any certified capacity as needed.

Description of Work
  • Performing regular periodic classification reviews, needs assessments, plans, job assignments, program referrals and regular scheduled one-on-one contact for the purposes of correctional and/or motivational counseling.
  • Providing transitional information, assisting with housing and recommendations for the classification upon offender review and assisting with onsite activities.
  • Communicating effectively with other staff, offenders, and the general public.
  • Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders, who can become physically violent and verbally abusive, being capable of defending oneself against attack and performing crisis interventions to include suicide prevention.
  • Preparing written reports which accurately reflect data reviewed by various sources, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation.
  • This is a certified position and employees may be subject to assist in any certified capacity as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range : $37,377 - $65,408

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.

About Central Prison

Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.

While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
