Job summary

The NC Department of Adult Correction seeks a Correctional Admissions Tech at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class handle the initial interviewing and processing of the offenders entering the prison system.

• Responsible for collecting data from the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) prior the offenders arrival.
• Preparing written reports and forms after gathering socioeconomic information, education, substance abuse history, etc. during the interview with the offender.
• Responsible for explaining terms of the sentence and providing general orientation to prison processes and procedures.
• Read and interpret legal documents effectively and accurately.
• Perform crisis intervention and routine counseling including suicide prevention with the ability to recognize abnormal behavior and take appropriate actions in accordance with established procedures.
• Recording data and setting up the offender field jacket before passing it on to a Case Analyst for processing.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $31,200 - $51,249

• Working knowledge of the objectives, techniques, and regulations of a prison environment.
