Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Correction Library Coordinator, onsite at Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem, Oregon.

About the Job – Your Role

As a legal library coordinator, you will supervise adults in custody accessing legal resources, coordinate legal calls, provide customer service and support for technical issues, and facilitate library services.

You will schedule attorney-client calls and law library appointments in accordance with relevant laws and policies and collaborate with security staff to coordinate the adult in custody’s availability. This position will require working with a wide variety of stakeholders including adults in custody, legal counsel, and institution staff.

The best person for this job has good prioritization skills, integrity, and strong boundaries. They are excited about an opportunity to serve adults in custody looking to learn more and navigate the legal system while maintaining the security and policies of the institution.

This position is represented by Association of Oregon Corrections Employees, (AOCE). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience involving coordination or direction of a clerical support function.

Preference will be given to applicants with library training or experience.

Courses or training in Office Occupations or Office Technology may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting in a correctional facility and includes extended sitting time at a computer terminal, involvement in telephone conversations, research in manuals, writing various documents, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, and stretching to reach/obtain/maintain AIC files. You are responsible for the operation of security alarms, tools, and key control. Work may be done with other units within the institution inside the secure perimeter. You must be able to move full boxes that may weigh 30 lbs. Boxes weighing greater than 30lbs will require assistance in carrying.

This position is subject to response during working and non-working hours to emergencies within the department and is subject to assignment to other areas of the department. This position is located at OSP and may provide leave coverage at other institutions.

Contact with AICs is likely and the possibility of exposure to material of a graphic nature and to dangerous situations (e.g. verbal or physical assault) does exist. The AICs have the potential for becoming angry, hostile, abusive, and aggressive, increasing the risk for employees of physical injury, death, and/or being taken hostage.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.
