Job description

About the Team

The Corporate Security team is responsible for safeguarding all OpenAI employees and executives. Our mission is to create a secure, resilient environment that allows our teams to focus on their work without risk or disruption. We manage physical security operations across offices, events, and global initiatives, partnering closely with internal teams and external agencies to stay ahead of emerging threats.

About the Role

As the Corporate Security Operations Manager based in Mountain View, you will own day-to-day site security operations and help develop practical physical-security strategies, policies, and procedures. You will lead vendor-managed armed and unarmed security teams, partner cross-functionally, and serve as a key liaison with local law enforcement and security partners.

This is a hands-on site-operations and guard-force leadership role, not primarily an executive, investigative, or policy-leadership position. The role typically requires 4-5 days in the office each week.

In this role, you will:
  • Office Security: Develop, implement, and manage practical physical-security measures, including policies, training, and vendor relationships, to protect employees and visitors across the Mountain View site and nearby facilities.

  • Operational Management: Own the day-to-day performance of vendor-managed armed and unarmed security teams across shifts and locations.

  • Set clear operational expectations and ensure security personnel understand and consistently follow company policies, post orders, and procedures.

  • Monitor security practices, identify operational risks, and drive timely, practical mitigation and remediation.

  • Coordinate with Workplace, Facilities, building management, law enforcement, and other internal and external partners to maintain a cohesive security posture.

  • Support broader Corporate Security operations as needed.

  • Support or lead security operations for on-campus events.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for VIP and government-guest coordination.

Account Management:
  • Build strong relationships with internal clients and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring security services meet operational and business needs.

  • Regularly review and report on site-security performance, incidents, trends, and remediation to senior stakeholders.

  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts, establish clear performance expectations, and maintain a regular operating cadence with security partners.

Training and Development:
  • Build and deliver practical, FTO-style onboarding, scenario-based training, recurring instruction, and coaching for armed and unarmed security teams and supervisors, including experienced former law-enforcement professionals.

  • Conduct regular training and exercises on security procedures, incident response, and site-specific operating expectations.

  • Ensure security personnel remain current on relevant technologies, procedures, and operational changes.

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing vendor security team.

  • Assess vendor and supervisor performance, provide clear feedback, and drive coaching or corrective action through the appropriate vendor leads.

You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • Professional Experience: 15+ years of law-enforcement and/or corporate-security experience, including significant hands-on police-department operations and frontline leadership.

  • Operational Leadership and Training: Frontline police-department supervisory experience, such as Sergeant, Lieutenant, or Captain, and/or experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO). Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and train experienced security personnel.

  • Physical Security Operations: Experience leading both armed and unarmed vendor security teams in a complex, fast-paced environment.

  • Technical Experience: Practical familiarity with physical-security technologies, including access control, surveillance, video-management, and intrusion-detection systems.

  • Vendor Management: Demonstrated ability to set expectations, evaluate performance, motivate teams, and develop third-party security vendors and contracted services.

  • Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with internal teams, local law enforcement, and external agencies while building strong, collaborative relationships.

  • Training and Development: Proven experience creating and delivering practical training for guards, supervisors, or law-enforcement teams, including onboarding, scenario-based instruction, coaching, and performance improvement.

  • Adaptability and Resilience: Comfortable leading through a dynamic, fast-paced environment and responding calmly to emerging threats or operational changes.
