The program emphasizes hands-on experience, mentorship from senior practitioners, and exposure to reinsurance concepts within a global insurer.

Qualifications

  • Open to all undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Preferred majors include Actuarial Science, Data Science/Analytics, Economics, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics; other STEM majors also accepted.
  • Successful completion of one CAS/SOA exam is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills—spoken and written, with formal/informal presentations.
  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Risk Management, or equivalent program in good standing.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities—clear-thinking, curiosity, integrity and drive.

Responsibilities

  • Review segment analysis, technical checks of actuarial analyses, large loss research, loss development pattern selections.
  • Support the development of quarterly monitoring and presentations.
  • Work closely with an Actuary on a project including review segment analysis, technical checks, large loss research, etc.
  • Deliver an end-of-internship presentation to the department.

The Opportunity

The Corporate Reserving Actuarial Intern will work closely with other Actuarial Associates and Actuaries within their respective teams, as well as with other key individuals across the department. The interns will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of reinsurance, the various functions of a reserving department within a reinsurance company, how to visualize data in a meaningful and impactful way for influence management decision making and leverage your new network to knowledgeably pursue an actuarial career path.

This internship is being offered in Princeton, NJ or New York City, NY.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without requiring employer sponsorship. At this time, we are unable to consider intern candidates who will need current or future sponsorship, including sponsorship related to Optional Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT).

Job Requirements:
  • Open to all undergraduate and graduate students
  • Preferred majors: Actuarial Science, Data Science/Analytics, Economics, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics. Also accepting: Accounting, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Law, Physics or any other STEM major
  • Successful completion of one CAS/SOA exam is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills - spoken & written, formal/informal presentation.
  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Risk Management, or equivalent program - in healthy academic standing.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities - clear-thinking, curiosity, integrity, and drive.
  • Enthusiasm about learning new knowledge and working in the reinsurance industry.
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills.

The company is open to considering candidate in New York, NY or Princeton, NJ. The pay has a base range of $20.00-$33.00 per hour. The hourly estimate displayed represents the typical hourly range for candidates hired in this position in NYC and Princeton. Factors that may be used to determine your actual rate will include your undergraduate or graduate level, specific skills, how many years of experience you have in comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
