General Description Of The Role

We are seeking a smart and self-motivated attorney to serve as an in-house partner to the Company's commercial/sales, channel marketing, and brand marketing teams, providing day-to-day legal counsel across a broad portfolio of alcoholic beverages. This role will provide day-to-day legal support across Campari's portfolio of premium spirits brands, with a primary focus on marketing, advertising, promotional, and commercial matters. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working closely with marketers, agencies, and business leaders to bring creative ideas to life while appropriately managing legal and regulatory risk. The attorney should possess strong commercial judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to provide clear, actionable advice to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Mission / Objectives

The mission of the Marketing Counsel is to support Campari America's commercial objectives by providing strategic legal guidance on marketing initiatives, advertising campaigns, sponsorships, consumer promotions, events, partnerships, and related commercial agreements. This role will help enable innovative marketing activations while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, industry regulations, and responsible marketing standards. The Marketing Counsel will also support the legal department's broader commercial contracting needs and partner with internal stakeholders to develop practical solutions that balance business objectives and legal risk.

Key Responsibilities And Activities
  • Support the Sales, Marketing, and Channel & Customer Marketing teams for most of their legal needs, providing day-to-day advice on a wide variety of topics.
  • Advise on federal and state alcohol beverage laws (TTB and state ABC regulations), tied-house restrictions, and trade practices compliance across all channels.
  • Review and advise on marketing materials, campaigns, claims, promotions (on-premise, off-premise, and digital), point-of-sale materials, sampling programs, activations, and event sponsorships.
  • Advise and train personnel on advertising, marketing, and trade practices compliance, including FTC endorsement guidelines, social media and influencer regulations, responsible marketing standards, and alcohol advertising codes (e.g., DISCUS Code).
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts, including for marketing and consulting services, sponsorships, ecommerce, talent and influencer endorsements, joint promotions, etc.
  • Research and keep abreast of changing legal and policy issues concerning the alcohol beverage industry, as well as general in-house issues such as advertising, social and digital media, amongst other topics.
  • Support Group Counsel, House of Brands on various internal and external projects and initiatives, including providing trainings to internal stakeholders.

Experience Required
  • At least 4 years of legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably in-house at a consumer goods company.
  • Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Experience advising marketing, promotions, sponsorships, or digital media matters is preferred.
Education / Professional Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.

  • Prepare and present interactive trainings, both virtual, in-person, and hybrid.
  • Able to be regularly present at the office location at least three days/week.
  • Necessary business travel estimated at approximately 5%.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $150,000-190,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors and considerations. In addition to base salary and a generous employee benefits package, employees are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
