Job summary

Leviton, Melville, NY, seeks a transactional attorney to manage corporate contracts, due diligence for acquisitions, and governance matters. You will report to the Associate General Counsel and support the legal team with negotiation and compliance tasks.

The role requires a NY-licensed lawyer with 4–6 years of corporate or law firm experience, strong contract skills, and business acumen. Remote work is not specified; expect on-site collaboration in New York.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and reviews contracts across commercial, real estate, compliance, licensing and employment.
• Provides corporate governance advice and policy drafting.
• Assist in mergers and acquisitions activities including due diligence and closings.
• Support the legal department through trainings, meetings and internal/external client interactions.
• Understand and align with the company’s business strategy; anticipate legal risks.

About the role

This position is for a transactional attorney with strong commercial and some corporate law background. The position will report to the Associate General Counsel and will be primarily responsible for the preparation, negotiation and control of most corporate contracts; assist with some compliance matters; and support the company’s mergers and acquisition activity, including managing and conducting due diligence, contract review and negotiation and conducting closings, as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and/or reviews contracts involving various substantive areas of law: including, but not limited to, commercial, real estate, compliance, licensing and employment documents.
• Provides corporate governance advice to the organization, including preparation of policies.
• Assist in the company’s acquisition activity (primarily due diligence)
• Enhance the effectiveness of the legal department through the participation in staff meetings, training, and the positive interaction with internal and external clients
• Understanding of the company’s business strategy
• Responsible for foreseeing and protecting the company against legal risks

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
• Must possess a wide degree of creativity and latitude
• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be a self-starter with a good business sense and a sense of urgency, honesty and fairness
• Must have the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
• Second Language, Spanish and / or Mandarin is a plus

Education & Experience

• Must be a graduate of an accredited law school
• Must be admitted to the New York state bar
• 4 to 6 years of experience in a corporate or law firm setting
• Must have experience with a variety of contract types (e.g. commercial, real estate, and distributor/rep)
