Job summary

The Boring Company is seeking a commercial real estate attorney to lead and support complex transactions in the United States. You will manage acquisitions, dispositions, land use, and development projects, driving deal success from negotiation through closing.

You will draft and review a wide range of real estate contracts, advise on risk and structure, and coordinate with title companies, surveyors, and government agencies.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school is required.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Tennessee preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience practicing commercial real estate law at a law firm and/or in-house.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, land use, and development projects.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, licenses, development agreements, and other real estate-related contracts.
  • Conduct legal due diligence, including title and survey review, zoning and land use analysis, and assessment of environmental and regulatory matters.
  • Advise business stakeholders on real estate risks, transaction structures, and legal strategies to support company objectives.
  • Coordinate with title companies, surveyors, and government agencies throughout the transaction process.
  • Support permitting, entitlement, and land use matters, as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain standard agreement templates, internal processes, and legal playbooks to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable real estate laws, regulations, and corporate policies.
  • Provide legal support on general commercial matters and other projects as needed.

Job description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Tennessee preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience practicing commercial real estate law at a law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • Demonstrated experience managing sophisticated real estate transactions from initial negotiation through closing

  • Familiarity with title, survey, zoning, land use, and permitting issues

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional business teams in a fast-paced environment
