Job summary

Self Storage Plus is seeking a Corporate Controller to own the accounting backbone behind nearly 100 properties, spanning property-level results and the operating company. You will lead financial close, treasury, and capital reporting across multiple entities, partnering with leadership to shape controls, reporting, and performance.

You will build and mentor a growing accounting team as the company scales, overseeing tax and compliance and driving process improvements across the portfolio.

Qualifications

• Multi-entity accounting experience with joint ventures, capital accounts, and waterfalls.
• Real estate accounting with debt covenants, fixed assets, and capital tracking.
• Strong communication with owners, JV partners, lenders, and auditors.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities, delivering consolidated and standalone financial statements.
• Maintain cash, capital accounts, waterfalls, and partner reporting across JV structures.
• Supervise development and pre-development accounting processes.
• Design and maintain internal controls for a multi-entity ownership structure.
• Ensure tax compliance and regulatory reporting; coordinate with tax preparers.
• Manage loan accounting, amortization schedules, covenant compliance, and lender reporting.
• Lead and develop a team of accountants; scale processes with portfolio growth.
• Oversee the operating company P&L, including revenue recognition, payroll, budgeting, and G&A.
• Drive systems integrations and process automation to support growth.

Key Requirements

• Multi-Entity Accounting Expertise: Proven experience accounting for joint ventures, including capital accounts, preferred returns, and promote waterfalls.
• Real Estate Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of property-level accounting, debt covenants, fixed assets, and capital tracking.
• Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills to support ownership, JV partners, lenders, and auditors.

Responsibilities

• Financial Close & Reporting: Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities, delivering consolidated and standalone financial statements under tax and GAAP accounting.
• Treasury & Capital: Maintain cash and provide accurate capital accounts, distribution waterfalls, and partner reporting across multiple JV structures.
• Development: Supervise and manage the development and pre-development accounting processes.
• Internal Controls: Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls appropriate for a multi-entity ownership structure.
• Tax & Compliance: Serve as primary point of contact for tax preparers, and ensure compliance with lender and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Debt & Covenant Oversight: Manage loan accounting, amortization schedules, covenant compliance, and lender reporting.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and develop a team of accountants and property accounting personnel; build scalable processes as the portfolio grows.
• Operating Company: Own the management company P&L including fee revenue recognition, payroll, departmental budgeting and G&A cost control.
• Systems & Process Improvement: Own and optimize accounting systems and property management software integrations; drive automation to support continued portfolio and JV growth.

• Pay: $170,000 to $190,000 per year with bonus potential
