The role requires specialized telecom accounting skills, including CAPEX tracking for fiber builds, grant accounting, subscription revenue recognition, and regulatory tax compliance. You will bridge day-to-day accounting with strategic financial management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Active CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller role; telecom/broadband experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring GAAP compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead month-, quarter-, and year-end closes and deliver accurate financial statements and dashboards for executives.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including A/P, A/R, Payroll, and General Ledger.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and safeguards for revenue, costs, and program budgets.
  • Oversee CAPEX accounting for fiber/infrastructure deployments and asset capitalization.

Job description

Rally Networksis seeking an experienced and highly analytical Corporate Controller to
aid our accounting operations during a period of rapid network expansion and customer growth. The Controller will be responsible for safeguarding company assets, maintaining rigorous internal controls, and ensuring the accuracy of all financial reporting.

Because we are a growing broadband provider, this role requires specialized experience in telecommunications accounting, including complex capital expenditure (CAPEX) tracking for fiber/infrastructure builds, telecommunications tax compliance, revenue recognition for subscription services, and federal/state grant accounting (e.g., BEAD,USDAreConnect). The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can bridge the gap between day-to-day accounting and strategic financial management.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Operations
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, producing accurate financial statements and dashboards for executive leadership.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets.
Broadband & Telecom Accounting
  • CAPEX & Fixed Assets:Manage the accounting for large-scale infrastructure deployments (e.g., fiber-to-the-home builds), ensuring proper capitalization of labor, materials, and overhead. Track project-level budgets vs. actuals.
  • Grant Compliance:Oversee the financial tracking, reporting, and reimbursement requests for federal and state broadband expansion grants (e.g., BEAD, RDOF, ARPA). Ensure strict adherence to grant guidelines and compliance audits.
  • Revenue Recognition:Manage deferred revenue and subscription-based revenue models, including residential and commercial broadband plans, installation fees, and equipment leases.
  • Regulatory & Tax:Partner with external tax advisors to ensure timely filing of all corporate taxes, telecommunications-specific taxes (USF, state PUC fees), and property taxes related to network infrastructure.
  • Inventory Management:Oversee the tracking and valuation of network equipment, routers, fiber optics, and field supplies.
Audit & Team Leadership
  • Contribute to all external audit activity
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Evaluate, upgrade, and optimize accounting and ERP systems, as well as billing software integrations specific to the ISP industry.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certification:Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
    • Industry Experience:Prior experience in telecommunications, broadband, ISP, or heavy infrastructure/construction industries is required.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, particularly regarding fixed asset capitalization, lease accounting (ASC 842), and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
    • Experience managing accounting for federal/state grants and familiarity with telecom regulatory compliance.
    • Advanced proficiency in mid-to-large tier ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics) and telecom billing systems.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial data simply to non-financial executives.
