Job Description
HIS Management Corp. is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting across our organization. This position will manage day-to-day accounting operations, financial close and reporting, construction job costing, WIP reporting, cash management, fixed assets, internal controls, and the accounting team. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background with construction industry experience and understands the financial complexities of project-based operations and multiple business entities.
Responsibilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting.
- Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
- Maintain and oversee fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, including additions, disposals, transfers, and appropriate depreciation treatment.
- Manage construction job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, retainage, contract billing, and project profitability reporting.
- Partner with project managers and operations to review project forecasts, cost-to-complete estimates, margins, change orders, and financial risks.
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, collections, and cash management.
- Manage multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, allocations, and reconciliations.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, financial analysis, and management reporting.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, banks, bonding companies, and other financial partners.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry preferred.
- Experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing and WIP schedules.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application to financial reporting and accounting practices.
- Tax accounting experience and familiarity with business tax requirements is recommended, but not required.
- Experience working with multiple entities and/or intercompany accounting.
- Experience managing fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint, COINS, Sage/Timberline, or similar.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership, operations, project management, and other departments.
