Job summary

Sarkes Tarzian, Inc in Bloomington, IN is seeking a Corporate Controller to maintain accurate fiscal records in accordance with GAAP and internal policies. This role supports the CFO and leadership with detailed reporting, audits, and financial planning.

The Controller will oversee accounting operations, budgeting, payroll processing, tax reporting, and compliance. Strong Excel and NetSuite experience, CPA preferred, and minimum 3 years in accounting are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA is preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
• Experience with financial statement preparation, payroll processing, journal entries, property tax reporting, and fixed asset management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and close monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end.
• Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and manage asset records.
• Oversee payroll processing, payroll taxes, and 401(k) withholding.
• Develop and maintain the corporate budgeting/forecasting process.
• Ensure compliance and complete year-end reporting and audits.
• Oversee supervision of staff and coordinate with external payroll processors.

Job Summary:

The Corporate Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate and compliant fiscal records across the company, in accordance with GAAP and internal policies. This role supports divisional controllers and must meet mandatory monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines, payroll, tax reporting, and consolidated financial statement preparation. The Controller plays a key role in supporting the CFO and company leadership through detailed reporting, audits, and financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations:

• Maintain the general ledger and income statements
• Handle month-end, quarter-end, and fiscal year-end closing processes
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly combined financial statements
• Maintain fixed asset records and property tax reports for all divisions
• Conduct semi-annual on-site audits of divisions

Budgeting & Forecasting:

• Develop and maintain the corporate operational budget
• Assist divisional controllers with budget preparation
• Consolidate divisional budgets into corporate projections
• Provide analysis and reporting for financial planning efforts
• Oversee payroll processing, payroll taxes, and 401(k) withholding
• Maintain accurate payroll records and interface with outside payroll processors

Compliance & Reporting:

• Prepare personal property tax reports for all divisions
• Complete workers' compensation reporting annually
• Prepare reports and documentation for year-end financial reviews and audits
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies
• Confirms outside payroll processor files all Federal and State payroll tax reports

Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
• CPA (preferred)

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting
• Experience with financial statement preparation, payroll processing, journal entries, property tax reporting, and fixed asset management
• Background in television, radio, and digital advertising accounting preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential (required)
• Strong analytical, planning, and critical thinking skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently and prioritize duties and work collaboratively with Divisions
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial accounting software
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Oversight experience and team leadership abilities
• Willingness and ability to travel for audits and professional development
• Valid driver's license and insurability (required)
• Experience with Net Suite Software preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Occasional oversight of an Administrative Assistant
• Support, train, and collaborate with Divisional Controllers
• Coordinate with outside payroll processors and accounting firms

Decision-Making Authority:

• Prioritize daily and long-term accounting duties
• Post entries to the general ledger
• Flexibility in schedule; must be available to meet deadlines and cover CFO responsibilities (as needed)
• Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multiple responsibilities
