Job summary

Whataburger, based in San Antonio, TX, seeks a Corporate Accounting Manager to lead GAAP-compliant corporate accounting operations, focused on G&A and general ledger accuracy. You will manage close processes, consolidate reporting, and drive process improvements with cross-functional partners.

You will mentor the team, ensure robust internal controls, and translate financial results into actionable insights for strategic decisions, while supporting growth and scalability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; combination accepted.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience with ownership of key processes.
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge, including accruals and period-end adjustments.
  • Experience leading month-end and year-end closes in a corporate setting.
  • Experience with GL accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, variance analysis.
  • Experience supporting G&A expense accounting and accruals.
  • Ability to translate results into operational insights for decisions.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.

As a Corporate Accounting Manager, you lead corporate accounting operations, with a focus on GAAP compliance, G&A expenses, and financial reporting, ensuring financial accuracy, strong controls, and clear insight for decision-makers. As a Corporate Accounting Manager, you will:

You Bring to the Table — Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of key accounting processes
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP including experience with accruals, estimates, and period-end adjustments
  • Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes, including driving timeliness and accuracy in a corporate environment
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis
  • Experience supporting corporate accounting functions, including G&A expense accounting and accruals
  • Experience ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
  • Ability to translate financial results into operational insights and support data‑driven decision‑making
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and performance management skills including driving accountability and continuous development
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Proven ability to influence cross‑functional partners (Marketing, Legal, IT, Human Resources)

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross‑functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
