Job summary

Wells Enterprises (a Ferrero Company) is seeking a Laboratory Sample Handler in Le Mars, IA. You will transport finished product samples and raw materials to the Corporate Lab for analysis, perform routine reagent prep, and ensure housekeeping and compliance with ISO 17025 standards.

You will also manage daily sample retrieval, paperwork, labeling, and testing readiness, while maintaining lab equipment, supplies, and safety procedures in a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Some mechanical experience is helpful for the role.
• Basic understanding of laboratory operations, techniques and procedures.
• Strong math and computer skills with good teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves finished product samples from ice cream plants daily and prepares them for testing.
• Collects re-pull samples and handles paperwork, labeling, and notification for testing.
• Performs routine laboratory housekeeping and waste disposal.
• Prepares test dilution blanks per SOPs and checks daily parameters (DI water, dilution blanks, alkalinity).
• Maintains laboratory van maintenance and ensures storeroom supplies are stocked.
• Drains and cleans water baths and ensures proper water circulation.

The Role

Primarily responsible for the transport of finished product samples/raw materials from the production facilities to the Corporate Lab for analysis. Performs routine reagent preparation in compliance with the ISO 17025 regulatory standards and laboratory house-keeping duties.

What You’ll Do

• Retrieves finished product samples from the ice cream plants daily, including retest samples from freezer. Unloads, sorts and places samples in appropriate location for testing
• Collects re-pull samples from the SICF as needed. Includes printing appropriate paperwork, retrieving samples, labeling samples, unloading, sorting, and notifying appropriate personnel samples are ready for testing. Continually monitors requests to ensure appropriate follow-up
• Performs various housekeeping duties in the laboratory on a daily, weekly, monthly basis to include but not limited to: waste disposal, cleaning sample carts and laboratory glassware/containers as needed.
• Prepares test dilution blanks according to Corporate Lab SOP’s, from calibration to sterilization
• Performs daily checks including DI water checks, dilution blank volume checks, alkalinity monitoring, etc
• Responsible for coordinating maintenance/upkeep of the laboratory van.
• Performs various laboratory housekeeping duties in the laboratory on a daily, weekly, monthly basis to ensure regulatory standards. Assists in restocking laboratory supplies and maintaining storeroom. Responsible for performing laboratory floor maintenance including spraying with disinfectants and mopping as needed.
• Drains and cleans water baths and performs routine maintenance to assure appropriate water circulation.
