Job summary

Blue Origin in the Seattle area is seeking a Test Engineering Manager to lead an EGSE team focused on Lunar Core Components test equipment. You will design, build, and commission EGSE rack equipment and coordinate across multiple product teams to ensure safe, reliable spaceflight hardware.

The role reports to the Senior Manager of Lunar Core Components Test Equipment, oversees performance reviews and career development, and expects about 25% travel with potential for up to 50% for remote-site

Qualifications

  • 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for career management of employees.
  • 6+ years of experience in at least one specialty area applicable to space flight.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary development and verification tests, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing a high-performing safety culture
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

The Test Engineering Manager will report to the Senior Manager of Lunar Core Components Test Equipment. Disciplines include electrical test equipment design (Electrical Ground Support Equipment - EGSE), avionics, and RF systems test. This role leads a consolidated EGSE team supporting all of Lunar, with a focus on the design, build, and commissioning of EGSE rack equipment. The selected candidate will integrate, coordinate, and triage engineering support across integrated product teams and test engineers.

The Manager will lead their employees' professional development (e.g., performance evaluations, compensation and promotion management, and routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on career development. The successful candidate will work independently to develop solutions and perform as a lead test engineer executing test procedures, ensuring all steps and processes are followed, be accountable to the safety of the hardware and people involved in the test. This position nominally has about 25% travel with infrequent select periods up to 50% to support testing at remote sites .You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Permanence system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for career management of employees
  • 6+ years of experience in at least one specialty area applicable to space flight

  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing a high-performing safety culture

Desired:
  • Experience with verification, integration, and test, of orbital vehicles or human rated spacecraft
  • Experience interfacing EGSE with avionics components (e.g., flight computers, power distribution, RF/radios)
  • Demonstrated drive to correct errors at their root and not pass them downstream
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in implementing continuous improvement for processes, methods, and practices.
  • Familiar with agile project management
  • Experience with space vehicle design development and test

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $150,743.00 - $211,039.50
