Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a Summer 2027 Core Neutronics Intern to join our Advanced Technologies Office. You will work with engineers to develop analytical models and assess reactor neutronics and thermal performance.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a nuclear engineering degree program.
• Must have strong interest in nuclear engineering.
• Must have taken introductory engineering courses, including thermodynamics, fluid flow, and nuclear engineering courses, including neutronics.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with experienced engineers to develop analytical models for nuclear reactor neutronics or thermal performance analysis and assess operating characteristics using analysis software.
• Work within a multi-disciplinary team to make design tradeoffs and decisions relating to neutronics or thermal performance of a terrestrial or space based nuclear reactor system.

Position Overview:

As a Core Neutronics Intern, you will work with our engineers and designers to create and analyze nuclear reactor systems by developing analytical models and conducting performance assessments.

Location:

The position will be located in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office.

Your Day to Day as a Core Neutronics Intern:

• Collaborate with experienced engineers and designers to develop analytical models for nuclear reactor neutronics or thermal performance analysis and assess their operating characteristics using state-of-the-art analysis software.
• Work within a multi-disciplinary team to make design tradeoffs and decisions relating to neutronics or thermal performance of a terrestrial or space based nuclear reactor system.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be a currently enrolled student, pursuing a degree in nuclear engineering.
• Must have a strong interest in nuclear engineering.
• Must have taken introductory engineering classes, including thermodynamics, fluid flow, and nuclear engineering courses, including neutronics.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with nuclear analysis tools (MCNP, OPENMC, SIMULATE/CASMO or other) is a plus.

Pay: $25.05 - $31.83

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $25.05 and $31.83 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
