CentraCare Health in St. Cloud, MN seeks a Core Faculty General Surgeon to support the Rural General Surgery Residency Program.

You will work with the Program Director, Site Director, and faculty to advance educational, clinical, and scholarly activities while delivering high-quality patient care in a rural setting. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching, curriculum development, and equity-driven healthcare for a diverse patient population.

Qualifications

  • Completion of General Surgery Residency Training is required.
  • MN Licensure or licensure eligibility is required.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery is required.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive learning environment for residents and learners; support curriculum development and educational programming.
  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered surgical care in a rural setting.
  • Support resident recruitment, onboarding, assessment, and professional development.
  • Lead or support program development aligned with interests and program goals (simulation, QI, POCUS, research, ethics).
  • Engage in scholarly activity, quality improvement, and faculty development while promoting evidence-based, equitable healthcare delivery.
  • Collaborate with program leadership, medical staff, community partners, and training sites to advance the Rural General Surgery Residency Program.

Job description

Shape the next generation of surgeons while advancing exceptional patient care in rural Minnesota!

As Core Faculty, you will support the Program Director, Site Director, Program Administrator, and faculty in the educational, clinical, and scholarly activities of the residency program.

Responsibilities include fostering a positive learning environment for residents and other learners; developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and educational programming; providing high-quality, patient-centered surgical care; supporting resident recruitment and orientation; contributing to didactic and scholarly activities; and helping ensure the effective operation of the continuity clinic.

In partnership with the Site Director, you will lead or support a focused area of program development aligned with your interests and the program’s goals, such as simulation, quality improvement, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), research, or clinical ethics.

This role offers the opportunity to model excellence in both general surgery and academic medicine while helping train the next generation of surgeons. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to improving healthcare in rural communities while serving a diverse patient population.

  • Support compliance with ACGME accreditation standards and institutional policies while contributing to residency program leadership and committees.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and continuous improvement, including support of rotations and educational programming.
  • Provide resident and medical student education through lectures, simulation, workshops, clinical teaching, and precepting.
  • Support resident recruitment, selection, onboarding, assessment, and ongoing professional development.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor, fostering resident wellness, professionalism, inclusion, and a positive learning environment.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, quality improvement, and faculty development while promoting evidence-based, equitable healthcare delivery.
  • Collaborate with program leadership, medical staff, community partners, and training sites to advance the Rural General Surgery Residency Program.
Schedule
  • Part Time | .05-.2 | Hybrid work – Onsite St. Cloud (Remainder of FTE will be dedicated to clinical practice)
  • Days
Pay and Benefits
  • Salary range:$250,000 - $500,000 per year
    • Pay may be determined by factors such as education, experience, skills, knowledge, location, and internal equity
    • Salary and salary range are based on a 1.0 FTE, reduced FTE will result in a prorated offer rate
    • May be eligible for additional pay through bonuses, quality incentives, or production-based (RVU) compensation.

Qualifications
Required
  • Completion of General Surgery Residency Training
  • MN Licensure or licensure eligibility
  • Board certification by the American Board of Surgery or by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery
Preferred
  • 3 years experience as a general surgeon
  • Active member of the American College of Surgeons
