Job description

Paperless Post is seeking a creative and strategic Copywriter to join our growing Brand Marketing team to support our Card and Flyer products and our blog. This role will collaborate closely with content and brand designers, marketers, and merchandisers to carry out the voice of our brand, as well as the more nuanced voice of our Card and Flyer products, and execute all copywriting tasks. From clever, culturally savvy invite copy to highly editorial blog posts and YouTube scripts, to email and in-asset digital invitation copy, you’ll communicate the value of our platform, make our product more discoverable, and inspire our users to host creatively and confidently.

The ideal candidate can inhabit an engaging yet instructional, and youthful but on-brand voice that helps our users create memorable events. You are well-versed in pop and internet culture and can achieve a range of tones from humorous to ironic to poetic. You can spot a misplaced comma from a mile away and understand that real estate is precious and each character counts. This role will work as part of our in‑house Copy team to help us tell a cohesive story across all of our marketing channels, and will report to the Lead Copywriter.

What You’ll Do Here
  • Write in‑media copy for Cards and our newly refreshed Flyer product, using a variety of moodboards with visual cues, then crafting a tone of voice to match
  • Participate in setting the tone for new moodboards and target consumer personas, and participate in ideation sessions with the Content Design and Merchandising teams in which they develop concepts for designs that combine imagery with copy ideas into a cohesive concept
  • Take a highly editorial approach to writing copy for our blog (this includes ideating story concepts with the Brand Marketing team, conducting interviews, and research)
  • Write copy for marketing assets, including emails, on‑site, YouTube scripts, paid ads, and social media (in partnership with our Senior Social Media Specialist)
  • Partner with the rest of the Marketing team, including designers, and other stakeholders, to create compelling communication that is more than the sum of its parts
  • Have a strong command of the Paperless Post brand voice—one that is confident, positive, and witty
  • Use your strong sense of humor to create quippy, funny one‑liners that the Design team can then design invitations around
  • Easily oscillate between witty brand copy and informational/instructional copy while maintaining a consistent, on‑brand tone
  • Be aware of how nuances in copy inform and engage users
  • Delight and inspire our party‑planning users
  • Support other copywriting tasks across the company, as needed
Must Haves
  • 2+ years of experience writing engaging, consumer‑facing copy for a digital brand, preferably in the retail or lifestyle space, or for a media outlet
  • The ability to research and write highly editorial blog posts and engaging YouTube scripts, and to adapt and abbreviate this content when appropriate for social media platforms (ie, TikTok)
  • Experience writing punchy copy with a wide range of inclusive cultural references, especially headlines, captions, and subject lines
  • The ability to write both Instagram and user interaction copy, and an understanding of how those are different
  • Scrupulous proofreading and copyediting skills, as well as fantastic grammar and a love of words
  • The ability to confidently juggle multiple projects at once and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Comfort with adapting to feedback/changes in strategy
  • A genuine interest in entertaining, parties, and the ways that people gather
