Job summary

The Loogootee Times is seeking a meticulous Copy Editor and Fact-Checker to serve as the final line of defense before publication. You will review local reporting, press releases, public records, and court news for AP Style, grammar, factual accuracy, and clarity.

Responsibilities include proofreading, verifying public records, fact-checking figures and quotes, polishing headlines and captions, and coordinating with the Head Editor to meet weekly deadlines.

Qualifications

• Strong background in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
• Demonstrated mastery of standard English grammar and AP Style.
• Exceptional attention to detail—you catch typos, awkward phrasing, and misspelled names.
• High ethical standards regarding accuracy, fairness, and public record reporting.
• Ability to meet strict weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of local history or geography in Martin County/Southern Indiana is a major plus but not required.
