Job summary

South32 Group Operations Pty. Ltd. is looking for a Tailings and Road Coordinator to manage the TSF, Growth Media, Hardshell facilities, and site roads at the Hermosa Project near Patagonia, Arizona. You will coordinate planning, inspections, and contractor activities to ensure safe, compliant operations.

The role emphasizes governance, risk management, and collaboration with diverse teams and external partners in a dynamic mining environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in mining, civil construction, geotechnical, tailings and dam management, or related heavy industry experience.
• Project management or project coordination experience related to construction, tailings deposition, water management, and/or instrumentation.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels as well as contractors and consultants.
• Experience with geotechnical or tailings monitoring systems and data, such as vibrating wire piezometers (VWPs), InSAR, geotechnical radar, or similar technologies.
• Experience coordinating mine road maintenance, traffic management plans, and contractor activities.
• Strong understanding of tailings governance frameworks and operational risk management principles.
• Ability to adapt to the rapidly changing conditions of a project environment

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), Growth Media and Hardshell facilities, site roads, and traffic management systems.
• Support safe, compliant, and efficient operation of TSF and related facilities through planning, inspection, monitoring, maintenance, and contractor coordination.
• Ensure compliance with OMS Manual and project permits; monitor TSF and infrastructure performance.
• Track, communicate, and coordinate corrective actions from inspections and monitoring activities.
• Oversee TSF monitoring systems, controls, and processes and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support forecasting, tracking, and reporting of waste streams deposited in the TSF.
• Coordinate Growth Media and Hardshell facility operations and deposition activities.
• Oversee site road design, construction, maintenance, grading, and drainage for safe access.
• Manage site traffic systems, signage, and traffic controls to support safe operations.
• Coordinate with RTFE on tailings governance and project requirements

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Tailings and Road Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), Growth Media and Hardshell facilities, site roads, and traffic management systems. This role supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of these areas through effective planning, inspection, monitoring, maintenance, and contractor coordination.

The Coordinator helps ensure the integrity, safety, functionality, and environmental performance of the TSF and associated site infrastructure while maintaining compliance with site standards, regulatory requirements, approved plans, and industry best practices. This role is based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Ensure compliance with project permits and the Operations, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Manual.
• Perform routine inspections of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and associated infrastructure, and monitor instrumentation data for performance trends.
• Track, communicate, and coordinate corrective actions resulting from inspections, monitoring activities, and surveillance findings.
• Ensure TSF monitoring systems, controls, and processes function as intended and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Support accurate forecasting, tracking, and reporting of waste streams deposited in the TSF.
• Provide recommendations on current and future operational requirements for the TSF and associated facilities.
• Support the development, communication, and delivery of TSF-related training, information, and initiatives.
• Manage contractor and consultant activities supporting TSF projects, including drilling, instrumentation installation, equipment installation, sampling, and testing programs.
• Support the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) in executing tailings management and governance responsibilities.
• Coordinate TSF stacking activities to ensure compliance with approved deposition plans and Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) requirements.
• Coordinate Growth Media facility operations, placement activities, and inventory management in accordance with approved plans and operational requirements.
• Coordinate Hardshell facility operations and placement activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, design specifications, and operational requirements.
• Oversee site road design, construction, maintenance, grading, and drainage activities to ensure safe and efficient site access.
• Manage site traffic systems, including signage, traffic controls, and roadway safety measures, to support safe and efficient site operations.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
