Job summary

CHRISTUS Health in Corpus Christi, TX, seeks an experienced Surgical Technician Leader to oversee daily OR operations, staff scheduling, and competency development under the Director/Manager.

You will mentor new staff, participate in policy implementation, ensure patient care assignments are safe, and collaborate with education for skills labs. Requires OR tech program, 2+ years' experience and BLS.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital or surgery center setting.
• BLS certification required

• Participates in policy development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Assists in preparation for regulatory surveys and implements departmental policies.

Summary:

Oversees the daily operations of the Surgical Techs in the Operating Room.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Under the guidance of the Director/Manager, accountable for the following; develop schedules for the unit within budgeted statistics; update associate files, skills checklists, and competencies; In conjunction with the Education department develop skills lab and related competencies; develop documentation to support program; Oversees mentoring of new staff.
• Provide input on evaluations.
• The Coord Surgical Techs manage day-to-day issues, working with staff, patients, and doctors.
• Ensures patient care assignments are safe.
• Identifies complex clinical issues and develops staff to provide excellent clinical care.
• Provide direct patient care as directed by the manager.
• Take calls for the unit as assigned.
• Participated with Director/Manager in interviews for open staff positions.
• Assist in preparation for Joint Commission, CARF, and other regulatory body surveys.
• Assist in or direct policy on the unit utilizing evidence-based practice. Participates in unit council and Program Performance Improvement initiatives.
• Attends relevant meetings and communicates information to program members, implements new departmental policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• Completion of an approved O.R.T. program required

Experience

• Two years of experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital or surgery center setting required
• Lead tech experience preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• BLS required
