  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT required unless working in Central Distribution Service location.
  • Registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician with PA State Board before start date.

Responsibilities

  • Procure, store, distribute and account for pharmaceuticals per laws and professional standards.
  • Monitor hospital medication inventory including floor stock and automated dispensing cabinet inventory.
  • Participate in 340B program procurement, records, and compliance.
  • Maintain purchase records, recalls, returns and credits.
  • Assist with drug budget monitoring by reporting pricing and purchase volumes.
  • Handle patient and department charges and billing information; participate in CDM build.
  • Perform pharmacy technician duties as needed and support quality and compliance initiatives.
  • Central Fill Pharmacy operations and equipment handling as required.

Job description

General Overview

Provides for purchase, storage, distribution, reverse distribution and accounting of pharmaceuticals and related products in accordance with all federal and state laws and standards of professional practice.

Essential Responsibilities
  • (30%) Performs procurement functions related to inventory, purchasing, receiving, reverse distribution, storage and drug distribution to ensure appropriate inventory levels to meet operational needs. Records and processes recalls, outdates, returns and credits.
  • (30%) Monitors hospital medication inventory including floor stock, automated dispensing cabinet inventory and facilitates the medication needs of other departments.
  • (10%) Participates in network supply chain purchasing initiatives. Reconciles and maintains purchase records pertaining to inventory activities, invoice management and associated database maintenance activities.
  • (10%) Administers the inventory replacement process for 340B medications inclusive of maintaining files and accurate records for 340B split billing software, maintaining compliance with 340B regulations, conducting all procurement activities in line with policies and regulations that govern hospital policy and the 340B program as appropriate.
  • (10%) Assists pharmacy management in monitoring the department's drug budget by reporting significant changes in prices, contract status and purchase volumes.
  • (5%) Processes patient and department charges, credits and billing information. Resolves discrepancies as they arise. Participates in CDM build and maintenance as necessary.
  • (5%) Performs the pharmacy technician functions as defined in the pharmacy technician job descriptions as necessary. Participates in performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Central Fill Pharmacy: Safe operation of equipment assigned, including but not limited to: forklifts, order pickers, reach trucks, or other material handling equipment. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum High school diploma / GED
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program.
  • Equivalent relevant pharmacy experience required in lieu of formal training program 3 years in a hospital pharmacy technician role.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or National Health Career Association Pharmacy Technician Certification (ExCPT), unless working in the Central Distribution Service location. Effective June 28, 2026; upon hire and before start date, registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician through the PA State Board of Pharmacy.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum: $20.12 Pay Range Maximum: $33.11 Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. The displayed salary range does not reflect any geographic differential Highmark may apply for certain locations based upon comparative markets.
