Job Summary and Purpose

The Work-Based Learning Coordinator (WBLC) provides leadership in the development, implementation and support the school division’s work-based learning program. This position also designs and delivers professional learning opportunities for all educators with emphasis on embedded school-level program coordination,consulting and support. The WBLC is focused on interdisciplinary, equitable secondary instructional programming while supporting the Profile of a Virginia Graduate that pertains to student achievement, demonstration of
workplace skills and career opportunities. The WBLC serves to develop and maintain partnerships between the school division and local businesses and organizations with the goal of providing students meaningful opportunities to connect classroom instruction with career goals.

Work Objectives/Essential Functions
  • Design and support professional learning opportunities and develop teacher leadership.
  • Support school leadership and promote learning to improve the quality of instruction at their schools.
  • Properly track and monitor work-based learning experiences within assigned school sites to ensure the school meets accreditation expectations.
  • Promote available work-based learning opportunities to all stakeholders (administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and the community) and recruit qualified and interested students.
  • Support the development of workforce-related grants.
  • Collaborate with business and industry partners for expansion of work-based learning opportunities for students and increase career awareness and exploration opportunities.
  • Provide quality-control of experiences through site visits, observations and evaluations of partnerships.
  • Represent, where appropriate, the school division in the work of regional, state and/or national work-based learning associations and study groups.
  • Communicate with parents and increase parental awareness and involvement.
  • Communicate with the Lead CTE & Workforce Preparedness Facilitator to ensure compliance with all federal and state labor regulations and child labor and workplace safety regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to area businesses directly working with students in the school.
  • Communicate with classroom teachers about expectations for training agreements and plans, safety, transportation, workplace readiness skills and best practices in working with business partners.
  • Serve as first point of contact for resolving concerns with site-based experiences.
  • Work with school principals to ensure the schools meet accreditation expectations.
Education and Experience

Education Attainment (Required): Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited
college/university

Education Attainment (Preferred):

Relevant Experience (Required): Classroom teaching and Business/Industry experience

Relevant Experience (Preferred):

Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required): Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License

Industry Licensure or Certifications (Preferred):

  • Support, collaborate and connect K-12 educators and students with the community through workforce partnerships.
  • Partner with building leadership teams to develop, support and implement School Improvement Plans (SIP) and CTE program delivery plans.
  • Relate positively to co-workers, parents, educational partners and other community representatives to expand support and opportunities for SCPS instructional programs.
  • Appropriate use of written and oral communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
