Job description

The Fitness Coordinator will provide entry-level professional management and programming for an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative effort to promote a culture of well‑being that celebrates movement and exercise. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the fitness floors in Campus Recreation & Wellness (CRW) managed facilities, ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality environment where students, members, and guests can thrive. The Fitness Coordinator will work closely with the Assistant Director of Fitness to support the operations and growth of personal training, small group training, group fitness, and fitness‑related programs and events serving the ECU community. This position provides direct supervision to multiple part‑time student fitness attendants and assists in the supervision of program managers, personal trainers, small group training coaches, group fitness instructors, interns, and a graduate assistant. The Fitness Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Fitness.

Talent Management – 60%
  • Supervise, evaluate, and develop multiple part‑time student employees and interns.
  • Design and implement an employee development strategy that supports professional growth, continuous learning, and strengths‑based performance.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship that fosters academic, personal, and professional growth through continuing education and strengths‑based learning experiences.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture through recognition, support, and appreciation of contributions.
  • Model a management style that promotes well‑being and self‑care.
Program Management – 30%
  • Manage daily operations of fitness floors within Campus Recreation & Wellness facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and engaging environment for all users.
  • Oversee activity on the fitness floors to support member engagement, safety, and effective use of equipment and space.
  • Support risk management practices and emergency response readiness through staff training and enforcement of safety procedures.
  • Assist with the equipment inventory, maintenance, and replacement processes in collaboration with staff and vendors.
  • Assess and evaluate programs using KPIs and both quantitative and qualitative data; prepare quarterly and annual reports with recommendations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by creating educational content, supporting colleagues, and contributing to professional development and scholarly work.
Administrative Support & Strategic Initiatives – 10%
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community partners to advance fitness and well‑being initiatives.
  • Represent Campus Recreation & Wellness on committees, task forces, and community partnerships to enhance visibility and collaboration on fitness‑related priorities.
  • Partner with academic units, student organizations, and external agencies to expand the reach and impact of fitness programs and services.
  • Create opportunities for engagement and connection through intentional outreach, education, and communication with stakeholders.
