Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Teacher Certification and Master’s degree preferred. Three years of experience with records and data, preferable in an educational environment. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs complex administrative program work for the Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability.

Primary Responsibilities:

Attends regular Texas Education Agency (TEA), State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), and State Board of Education (SBOE) meetings and trainings and participates in TEA-sponsored webinars and meetings. At the invitation of TEA, may participate in stakeholder committee/sub-committees. Oversees program compliance. Stays current in Texas Administrative Code and Texas Education Code and communicates changes and anticipated changes. Recommends program improvements and implements changes as they occur to ensure program compliance. Facilitates TEA reporting and accreditation reviews. Responsible for verification of students’ successful completion of admission requirements for acceptance to certification program. Reviews candidates’ academic/testing status to ensure all state/program requirements are met prior to recommending them to the State Board for Educator Certification for the issuance of a certificate. Compiles/submits data and reports. Leads Title II reporting. Collaborates with Educator Preparation Program faculty and staff to ensure the accuracy of certification information. Presents at orientations and in classrooms. Adds attributes, completes applicable out-ot-state documents, and completes transfer forms. Monitors/tracks gates/processes and reviews and ensures the accuracy of records. Conducts information sessions for candidates. Informs candidates of state and program policies and procedures to apply for certificates. Represents SHSU at conferences and meetings. Responsible for clearance and approval of undergraduate and graduate candidates to register to take certification exams. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Expertise in using multiple software programs; skilled in data collection, entry, retrieval, and dissemination. Experience producing data-intensive summary reports. Ability to learn new software programs and databases in a timely manner. Demonstrate high level of proficiency in comprehending and evaluating state certification policies and EPP requirements to assist with administrative reports, specialized correspondence, and research projects. Strong interpersonal and analytical skills. Leadership ability and high-level knowledge of federal and state regulations required to initiate and coordinate certification guidelines and procedures. Experience with higher education program accreditation requirements preferred. Knowledge of rules and regulations governing certification of public school personnel in Texas preferred. Position requires strong confidentiality and knowledge of FERPA. Requires initiative, discretion, and management of highly confidential information. Must be very organized, detail oriented, have excellent computer and communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of constituents to ensure positive program representation and compliance with the Texas Administrative Code and federal mandates governing educator preparation. Position requires outstanding representation of the university and program through leadership in program orientations and communication with students/candidates, faculty and staff, districts, and state partners.
