Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro seeks a Coordinator, Fitness Operations to lead the fitness spaces at the Kaplan Center. You will supervise 30–40 student employees, recruit, onboard, schedule, and train staff while ensuring excellent customer service, proper equipment usage, and rigorous risk management.

The role requires a relevant Bachelor's degree with experience, and national certifications in group fitness or personal training, plus CPR/First Aid.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Department of Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. RecWell fosters comprehensive wellness by engaging students and the UNCG community in experiential and educational opportunities. Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Fitness, the Coordinator, Fitness Operations is responsible for the coordination and management of the fitness spaces in the 216,000 sq ft. Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness. The Coordinator, Fitness Operations also directly supervises and develops a team of approximately 30-40 part-time student employees through recruitment, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, evaluating, and ongoing professional development. The position is responsible for maintaining service excellence by ensuring staff are knowledgeable in customer service, equipment usage, emergency response procedures, and risk management practices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Relevant Bachelor's degree with relevant experience.
  • National certification in group fitness and/or personal training.
  • Team-player philosophy and able to successfully work independently and in collaborative groups.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong commitment to the development of students to provide leadership training, support academic success, and professional development.
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or able to attain within first three months.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours in addition to regular University hours
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid certification or able to attain within first three months. Drivers license required. National certification in group exercise and/or personal training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Sport Management, Exercise Science/Kinesiology, or related field from a 4-year accredited institution.
  • Two years' professional experience in recreation, athletics or fitness in higher education or commercial setting (completion of a Graduate Assistantship will be counted in professional experience).
  • Experience managing a fitness facility with oversight of equipment preventative maintenance and assessment, budgetary and/or equipment purchasing.
  • Marketing, promotions, communications and event-hosting experience.
  • Competent in recreation/fitness software including, but not limited to: Fusion,Connect2 and Time Clock Plus, When2Work, Canvas, EMS, Handshake.
