The Coordinator, Custodial Services, oversees Tyler Junior College’s contracted janitorial services to ensure compliance with contractual standards, health and safety regulations, and institutional expectations. This position conducts quality inspections, monitors performance metrics, and serves as the primary liaison between the College and the contracted cleaning vendor(s). This role supports a clean, safe, and well‑maintained campus environment across TJC.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of a janitorial services contract, ensuring that services are delivered according to established standards and contract terms, including conducting quality inspections, maintaining contractual relationships, and resolving any issues that arise.
- Review scheduled cleaning tasks, monitor contractual performance, including conducting regular site audits, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and proactively identifying areas for improvement to optimize cleaning services.
- Identify potential issues with contracts and develop proactive solutions.
- Participate in negotiating contract renewals and amendments with the cleaning service company.
- Establish and maintain high cleaning standards aligned with contractual expectations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with the cleaning service company through regular communication and feedback.
- Act as liaison between TJC Faculty/Staff and contracted cleaning services company, keeping everyone apprised of contract‑related matters.
- Maintain an open line of communication with Facilities and Construction department supervisors and the Director. Assist in coordinating work within multiple departmental offices.

Work Environment:
Indoor office setting. Work is primarily conducted during normal business hours. Some work may be required on nights and weekends.
Physical Demands:
Sitting, walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 25lbs, and repetitive typing.
Travel Required:
Yes – 40% (TJC West, TJC North, and Jacksonville locations)
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Experience
Two years of experience in janitorial services or related positions.
One year of supervisory experience.
Additional Job‑Specific Requirements
- Must have a good understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and occupational safety and environmental regulations and laws.
- Must be familiar with MSDS/SDS procedures and practices, and be able to maintain all onsite SDS records.
- Must be proficient in Word and Excel and have the willingness and ability to learn new software programs (i.e., Banner and ServiceNow).
- Must be able to work with little supervision, interpret, and follow prescribed procedures.
- Experience in statistical evaluation of data and report writing skills.
- Ability to respond to routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures to others.
