Job summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College seeks a Child Care Coordinator to implement program goals and oversee daily operations of the childcare center for ages six weeks to five years. You will manage staff, develop activity schedules, write lesson plans, and ensure health, safety, and educational standards.

Reporting to the Assistant Director and Director, you will supervise childcare assistants, college study students, and volunteers, coordinate training, and participate in parent activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three or more years teaching in childcare.
  • Pass background check.
  • Obtain a physical prior to employment.
  • CDA Credential or Early Childhood coursework (18 credits).

Responsibilities

  • Direct activities for children in the program.
  • Supervise large and small groups of children.
  • Develop and plan daily activities including writing lesson plans.
  • Assist with preparing and presenting educational materials.

Job Summary

The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for implementing program goals and classroom objectives and performing related work for children six (6) weeks to five (5) years old. The Child Care Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the childcare center, including managing staff, developing activity schedules, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and educational standards in the absence of the Assistant Director and the Director.

The Child Care Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director and Director.

Job Duties
  • Direct activities for children in the program.
  • Supervise large and small groups of children.
  • Assist children with self-help skills.
  • Work with individual children on specific tasks.
  • Develop and plan daily activities including writing lesson plans.
  • Assists with the preparation and presentation of educational materials.
  • Regularly, assess, evaluate, observe, record, and update children's class attendance, behavior, development, etc.
  • Complete and keep current all required certifications and training.
  • Attend professional development seminars and parent related activities.
  • Assist with serving meals and snacks.
  • Supervises childcare assistants, college study students, institutional workers, volunteers, foster grandparents, and practicum students.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and educational standards.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three or more years teaching in a childcare environment
  • Pass background check
  • Obtain a physical prior to employment
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential/Early Childhood Certificate/ 18 Credit Hours of Early Childhood Courses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood, Education or a related field
  • Knowledge of recreational activities associated with creative play
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of instructional methods, materials, and program operations for children six (6) weeks to five (5) years.
  • Knowledge of psychological and biological needs of children.
  • Knowledge of Department of Human Services (DHS) Licensure Rules and Regulations
  • Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Ability to make decisions both within or without guidance or established procedure.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in stressful situations.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to manage staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, children and other employees.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift children 40 pounds if needed.
