Job summary

Symbotic in Wilmington, MA is seeking motivated interns and co-ops for Spring 2027. You will architect and scale software for autonomous capabilities, collaborate with ML R&D, and optimize deployment pipelines for robotics systems.

The program includes mentorship, events, and relocation/housing support for eligible students. Ideal candidates have a CS/CE/Robotics background, experience with cloud platforms (GCP/Azure), and proficiency in Python or C++.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, robotics, or related field.
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (GCP or Azure).
• Experience working with data systems including telemetry and sensor data.
• Proficiency in Python or C++ and ability to deliver high-quality code quickly.

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale our software platform to support autonomous capabilities.
• Collaborate with ML R&D to ensure models meet deployment requirements.
• Optimize the robotics deployment pipeline from code merge to rollout for ONNX/TensorRT systems.
• Maintain edge computing infrastructure for real-time performance and reliability.
• Create pipelines to train robotic ML systems including data curation, labeling, training, and evaluation metrics.
• Increase evaluation speed using hardware and physics-based simulations.
• Reduce maintenance through data-driven diagnostics for scale-up.
• Engineer advanced robotic software to boost ML performance.
• Design efficient compilation architectures to reduce hardware dependencies.
• Configure docker Compose to balance robotic hardware sharing.

What you'll do

• Architect and scale our software platform to support current and future autonomous capabilities.
• Collaborate with ML R&D teams to ensure new models meet deployment requirements.
• Optimize the robotic hardware fleet deployment pipeline, streamlining processes from merge requests through testing to roll-out for systems using ONNX/TensorRT and custom hardware.
• Maintain and improve edge computing infrastructure to meet real-time performance and reliability needs.
• Create pipelines to train robotic machine learning systems including dataset curation, labeling, training, and evaluation metrics.
• Double speed and efficiency of robotic system evaluation using simulation of hardware and mechanics
• Reduce mechanical hardware maintenance during robotic scale-up using data-driven diagnostics and alert systems.
• Engineer state-of-the-art robotic software to increase performance of machine learning.
• Design efficient compilation architectures to decouple hardware program inter-dependencies.
• Structure docker compose configuration to balance robotic hardware sharing.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, software engineering, robotics engineering or related field
• Demonstrated experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure
• Experience working with complex data systems, including data storage, telemetry data, and camera or sensor data
• Strong software engineering skills with expertise in at least one programming language and its ecosystem. You should be comfortable delivering high-quality, working code quickly and consistently.
• Proficiency in Python or C++.

Our Environment

• Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
• The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $32.00 - $41.80 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
