Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC, mission-critical facilities, or data center infrastructure design.
  • Experience performing HVAC load calculations and system sizing.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms and HVAC modeling tools.

  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for data center cooling systems.
  • Design and optimize chilled water, direct expansion (DX), liquid cooling, air-side and water-side economization systems.
  • Perform cooling load calculations and thermal analyses for white space, support spaces, and critical infrastructure areas.
  • Develop HVAC system layouts, piping schematics, flow diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Evaluate emerging cooling technologies, including direct-to-chip and immersion cooling solutions.

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Cooling System Design Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of cooling infrastructure for hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data center projects. This role is responsible for designing efficient, reliable, and sustainable thermal management solutions that support mission-critical environments.

The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, equipment vendors, construction partners, and project stakeholders to develop cooling system designs that meet performance, energy efficiency, scalability, and operational requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Cooling System Design
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for data center cooling systems.
  • Design and optimize chilled water, direct expansion (DX), liquid cooling, air-side and water-side economization systems.
  • Perform cooling load calculations and thermal analyses for white space, support spaces, and critical infrastructure areas.
  • Develop HVAC system layouts, piping schematics, flow diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Evaluate emerging cooling technologies, including direct-to-chip and immersion cooling solutions.
Engineering & Technical Analysis
  • Conduct system sizing calculations for chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, heat exchangers, and associated equipment.
  • Perform computational modeling and simulations to validate cooling performance and energy efficiency.
  • Support CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analyses for airflow management and thermal optimization.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
Project Delivery
  • Support project planning, design reviews, and technical coordination throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, structural, controls, and commissioning teams.
  • Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Resolve design and field issues while maintaining schedule and budget commitments.
Sustainability & Energy Efficiency
  • Design solutions that achieve high levels of energy efficiency and operational resiliency.
  • Support PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) optimization initiatives.
  • Evaluate energy consumption and lifecycle cost impacts of cooling system alternatives.
  • Contribute to corporate sustainability and carbon reduction goals.
Documentation & Standards
  • Prepare engineering reports, calculations, technical specifications, and design documentation.
  • Develop and maintain design standards and best practices for data center cooling infrastructure.
  • Ensure complete and accurate project documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC, mission-critical facilities, or data center infrastructure design.
  • Experience performing HVAC load calculations and system sizing.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
    • BIM platforms
    • HVAC modeling tools

  • Knowledge of liquid cooling technologies for AI/HPC workloads.
  • Experience with Uptime Institute Tier standards and TIA-942 requirements.
  • LEED Accreditation or experience with sustainable design initiatives.
  • Project management experience in multi-disciplinary engineering environments.
  • Strong knowledge of:
