Job summary

Intermountain Health in Murray, UT, is seeking a Cook Lead to join our Culinary Services team. The role is full-time (40 hours) with a pay rate of $20.45–$27.04 per hour, Monday–Friday 6am–1:30pm, with flexible scheduling to support operations.

You will lead Culinary and Nutrition Care Associates and ensure quality food production for cafe, patient, and catering settings. Ideal candidates have ServSafe or Food Handler certification, 1+ year of cook experience at Intermountain Health, and strong

Qualifications

  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification is required by first day of work (required).
  • ServSafe certification obtained within 90 days of hire date if not current.
  • One or more year of experience as a Cook at Intermountain Health (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize safe food handling techniques in all applications.
  • Understands workflow, prioritizes, uses timelines and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service (preferred).
  • Understands and prepares food according to modified diets using appropriate techniques (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize commercial cooking equipment (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Follows recipes and/or instructions in the preparation of food items.
  • May prepare bulk food items, large scale production, line cook or assemble specialty meals.
  • Completes Line Checks to ensure quality taste and presentation.
  • Ensures department standards for quality, sanitation, and safety are met.
  • Maintains proper production quantities with rotation of product.
  • Interacts with customers across catering, retail, and patient care venues.
  • May deliver patient meals, cashier, stock, and operate ware-washing equipment.
  • Responsible for training new cooks and Nutrition Care Associates.
  • Provides after-hours supervision in the absence of supervisor or Chef.

Job Description

Under general direction, plans, prepares, and cooks foods for cafe, patient and/or catering settings. This position is also responsible to lead the Culinary and Nutrition Care Associate teams when other leadership is not on-site within the Culinary Services department. Resolves immediate departmental & customer service issues. Escalates security and utility concerns to manager and appropriate interdepartmental contacts as appropriate per evening and after hour procedures.



  • Full Time, 40 hours per week

  • Pay Rate: Based on Experience ($20.45 - $27.04)

  • Availability Needed: Monday-Friday 6am-1:30pm with flexible scheduling needed to support business needs

  • Additional Details: Standing for the majority of the shift, carrying and moving meal items up to 20-50 pounds throughout shift, working in extreme temperatures

Essential Functions


  • Follows recipes and/or instructions in the preparation of food items

  • Ensures that department and service line standards for quality, sanitation, and safety are met

  • Maintains proper quantities of production with appropriate rotation of product

  • Interacts with customers in all venues including but not limited to: catering, retail outlets, patient care

  • May be required to deliver patient meals, cashier, stock, use automatic and manual ware-washing machines

  • Responsible for continued training of new Cooks and Nutrition Care Associates

  • Supports a disciplined environment and provides after hours supervision in the absence of the supervisor or Chef

Physical Requirements


  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.

  • Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work at a grill or in a refrigerator and tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.
