Job summary

Contract Services Group, Inc. is seeking a Cook II - Cocinero II (Food and Beverage) to prepare and present food items to specification. You will work at a hotel/kitchen, ensure portions, rotate stock, and maintain cleanliness on station, walk-ins, and refrigeration.

Candidate should understand basic English, know kitchen operations, and hold a California driver’s license with proof of insurance. Safety, teamwork, and reliability are essential in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow specifications to prepare and present all food items for service.
  • Prepare culinary items specific to station and handle all products properly.
  • Ensure correct portions of meats, fish, and poultry are served as ordered.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas; rotate stock and monitor spoilage.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and perform cross-training as directed.

Job Skills / Requirements

Compensation Range: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • To follow all specifications to properly and efficiently prepare and present all food items to be served, including accommodating special guest requests.
  • To follow all specifications to properly and efficiently prepare all culinary items specific to station.
  • To follow all specifications to properly handle all products used in hotel cooking, including trimming and cutting; marinating; and covering, labeling, and storing pre-prepared foods.
  • To ensure that proper portions of meats, fish, and poultry, as specified, are served.
  • To personally ensure the quality and quantity, as ordered, of all food items on the station.
  • To take daily inventory of all items in the walk-in and assist, as directed, to order stock.
  • To rotate food in the refrigerator to minimize waste and spoilage.
  • To promptly notify supervisor of product spoilage.
  • To maintain internal cleanliness of station, refrigeration, freezer, and walk-ins.
  • To follow all specifications to properly set up hot or cold line stations.
  • To communicate all guest requests to an appropriate supervisor in a timely and professional manner.
  • To immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions.
  • To maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times.
  • To practice safe work habits at all times, to avoid injury to self and others.
  • To comply with company and departmental safety rules and regulations, including the proper handling of all relevant equipment.
  • To attend all mandatory meetings as directed.
  • To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Able to understand basic English, and follow simple verbal directions. Must have basic knowledge of production and operations in all relevant kitchen areas. Must be familiar with proper use and maintenance of relevant kitchen equipment and machinery. Valid California driver's license required. Proof of personal automobile insurance coverage is required. Hotel experience preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Works indoors throughout shift in the clean, well-lighted kitchen

areas. Frequently works behind the hot range. Makes occasional short trips to walk-in freezer and refrigerator. The kitchen may be moist, odorous, and warm from cooking foods. The kitchen floor is uneven and may be slippery from moisture and grease. Business levels may require a fast work pace.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Stands/walks short distances throughout shift. Bends, stoops, reaches, pushes, pulls, and lifts to perform routine job tasks. Frequently required to handle and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. over short to moderate distances. Flexibility and good reflexes are required to operate an electric cart. Must be able to work under pressure.
