Job description

We are hiring immediately for full‑time and part‑time Cook positions at Brewton‑Parker College, located at 201 David‑Eliza Fountain Circle, Mount Vernon, GA 30445. Online applications only.

Schedule

Full‑time and part‑time schedules; days and hours may vary. More details will be provided during the interview.

Requirements

• Prior cooking experience required.
• Ability to follow recipes, maintain food safety and sanitation, and work in a team environment.

Pay

$9.00 per hour to $11.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Prepare high‑quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
• Serve meals or prepare for delivery using correct portioning; ensure food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty. Taste all prepared food items.
• Use established ticket collection procedures during service; maintain records of the area worked during service periods.
• Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Store or discard excess food in accordance with safe food‑handling procedures.
• Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat; ensure food and supply items are stored per standards.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed.
• Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as required.
• Assist in ordering and receiving all food and supplies as required.
• Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
• Attend in‑service and safety meetings.
• Maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers.
• Perform job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures; follow HACCP standards.
• Demonstrate personal commitment to safety for oneself and others.
• Abide by all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Use of medium‑weight cut gloves when handling knives, peelers, choppers, or a slicer.
  • Use of oven mitts, fryer gloves, or steamer gloves when handling hot pans from ovens or steamer tables.
  • Use of slip‑resistant shoes and proper lifting techniques.

Because this position requires work in an educational facility, there may be periods when the company does not require you to work (such as winter and summer breaks). Any such periods during which you do not perform work may be unpaid and deemed a temporary layoff. Work may be required year‑round, possibly at a different location during break periods.
