Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a dedicated cook to support high-volume hospital dining services at the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, Lancaster, PA.

The role requires strong culinary skills, strict adherence to recipes, and a commitment to food safety and patient service.

You will work as part of a team to prepare, portion, and plate meals, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years in hot food production and cooking.
  • Minimum of one year preparing cold food items.
  • Minimum of one year in high-volume food production.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food items according to standardized recipes, including vegetables, entrees, breakfast items, and sandwiches.
  • Perform cooking methods such as roasting, baking, broiling, frying, and grilling.
  • Prepare and portion meats, cheeses, and other ingredients for service.
  • Set up and maintain tray-line operations for timely meal production.
  • Monitor food quality, taste, texture, and temperature throughout preparation, holding, and serving.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP procedures.
  • Label, date, store, and rotate food products to minimize waste.
  • Maintain food production, storage, and preparation areas in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition.
  • Set up entrée, vegetable, and soup stations and verify food temperatures before service.
  • Assist with inventory management and support departmental operations as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare food items according to standardized recipes, including vegetables, entrees, breakfast items, and sandwiches.

  • Perform a variety of cooking methods such as roasting, baking, broiling, frying, and grilling.

  • Prepare and portion meats, cheeses, and other ingredients for service.

  • Set up and maintain tray-line operations, ensuring timely and accurate meal production.

  • Monitor food quality, taste, texture, appearance, and temperature throughout preparation, holding, and serving.

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures.

  • Properly label, date, store, and rotate food products to maintain freshness and minimize waste.

  • Maintain food production, storage, and preparation areas in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition.

  • Set up entrée, vegetable, and soup stations and verify food temperatures before service.

  • Assist with inventory management and support departmental operations as needed.

Location: Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, 2100 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA



Minimum Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in hot food production and cooking.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience preparing cold food items.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in high-volume food production.

  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Culinary school diploma with training in commercial, institutional, or high-volume food production.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in large-scale food service operations.

  • Previous experience training, mentoring, or directing staff.

  • Experience working in healthcare, hospitality, education, or institutional food service environments.
