We are hiring immediately for full‑time Cook positions at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (225 East Chicago Avenue, Suite 11354, Chicago, IL 60611). The position is full time, requires rotating weekends and holidays, and is located in a healthcare setting. Previous cooking experience in a healthcare environment is preferred. Pay range is $21.00-$24.00 per hour and online applications are accepted only.
Job Summary
- Prepare food in accordance with federal, state, and corporate standards and guidelines.
- Ensure quality food service is provided at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare high‑quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
- Serve meals or prepare them for delivery using correct portioning, temperature, and presentation; taste all prepared food items.
- Use established ticket collection procedures during service; maintain records of service periods.
- Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high cleanliness standards.
- Store or discard excess food according to safe food‑handling procedures.
- Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat; store food and supplies per standards.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed.
- Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as required.
- Assist in ordering and receiving all food and supplies.
- Report maintenance needs, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Attend in‑service and safety meetings.
- Maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers.
- Perform job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and maintaining serving temperatures; follow HACCP standards.
- Commit to personal safety and the safety of others.
- Abide by all company policies and procedures, including:
- Use a medium‑weight cut glove when handling knives, peelers, choppers, mandolins, or cleaning a slicer.
- Use oven mitts, fryer gloves, or steamer gloves when handling hot pans.
- Use slip‑resistant shoes and proper lifting techniques.
