Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System is seeking a full-time Cook to prepare and portion food for patients, the cafeteria, and catering services across our central Ohio network. You will obtain ingredients, follow recipes, and coordinate with dietitians to meet modified diets and service times.

You will lift and carry medium to heavy items, maintain clean work areas, and work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced hospital setting. Mount Carmel offers solid benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or 1 year of related food service experience.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication).
• English reading, writing, and speaking required.
• Food handlers’ certification within 6 months of hire.
• Hospital or large institution food service experience preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Obtains appropriate ingredients from storage areas for recipes when necessary.
• Responsible for lifting and carrying medium to heavy food and equipment.
• Plans cooking schedule with supervisor and/or dietitian to ensure food will be ready at specified times.
• Confers with dietitians regarding modified diet preparation and use of reviews menu and special orders to determine types and quantities of food items.
• All other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High school Graduate or 1-year equivalent experience with commercial production food service.
• Must have basic math skills to, including addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication.
• Must know how to read, write, and speak English.
• Licensure / Certification: Food handlers’ certification within 6 months of hire
• Experience: Relevant work experience in a hospital setting, large institution or Commercial kitchen preferred
• Effective Communication Skills and customer service skills
• Knowledge of large quantity standards of cooking preferred
• Knowledge of food preparation by recipe preferred
• Ability to complete assignments under direct supervision.
• The ability to work independently as a part of a team. Strong attention to detail and good organization skills.
• Must be compatible with others and work well in a service situation with many different people.
• Must have a clean and neat appearance.
