Job summary

Prestige Senior Living in Pendleton, OR is seeking a Cook to prepare, cook, and serve food per menus and dietary specs under supervision of the Food and Nutrition Services Manager. You will ensure proper temperatures, maintain cleanliness, and assist with planning for special meals.

This role requires at least one year of cooking experience in a restaurant or dietary department, and state food service certification/license.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience cooking in a restaurant or dietary department of a hospital or similar environment.
  • Must have required State certification or food service license.
  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, cooks, and serves food in accordance with the menu and standards, including presentation, taste, and texture.
  • Ensures foods are cooked and held at appropriate temperatures and records temperatures.
  • Maintains clean and safe work area and assists in daily/scheduled cleaning.
  • Ensures proper storage, rotation, labeling of food per guidelines and policy; discards outdated food.
  • Collaborates with dietary staff to ensure equipment operates properly and at proper temperatures; reports faults.
  • Follows fire safety, infection control and hazardous chemical practices; reports unsafe conditions.
  • Assists in planning and preparing food services for special meals, events and parties.
  • Attends trainings, in-services, and staff meetings; performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ensures foods are cooked and held at the appropriate temperatures. Records food temperatures throughout the cooking and holding process.
  • Partners with supervisor to review menus and record necessary substitutions.
  • Ensures that food supplies are available and prepared as needed for upcoming meals. Notifies supervisor of needed supplies.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area, cleaning spills and assisting in daily or scheduled cleaning.
  • Ensures proper storage, rotation, preparation, and labeling of food in accordance with Federal, State, and local guidelines and Prestige policy. Discards outdated food.
  • Partners with dietary staff to ensure equipment is working properly and at the appropriate temperature. Records temperature of equipment throughout shift as needed. Reports faulty equipment immediately.

Qualifications And Experience

A minimum of one year experience cooking in a restaurant or the dietary department of a hospital or similar environment. General kitchen/dietary experience may be considered in lieu of direct cooking experience. Must have required State certification or food service license.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
