Job summary

Lakeview Manor in Michigan is seeking a Cook to prepare high-quality meals for residents in accordance with prescribed menus and sanitation standards. You will collaborate with dietary staff to support resident health and satisfaction while maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment.

You will supervise staff in the absence of the Chef, follow standardized recipes, and prepare meals per RD-developed cycles.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year experience as a cook in an institutional food service setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and infection control practices.
  • ServSafe certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes, menus, and diet orders.
  • Meets all state and federal criminal background check requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise culinary center staff in the absence of the Chef or Certified Dietary Manager.
  • Handle and store all food according to facility procedures and regulations.
  • Follow standardized recipes and menus.
  • Prepare foods per menus developed by Registered Dietitians.
  • Cook nutritious meals at proper temperatures and times.
  • Use food supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste.
  • Maintain a supply of food alternates for resident preferences and refusals.
  • Supervise culinary staff on storage, prep, tray assembly, and cleaning.
  • Operate kitchen equipment per guidelines and cleaning schedules.
  • Inspect trays after meals for resident acceptance and report findings.

The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for residents in accordance with prescribed menus, dietary restrictions, and sanitation standards. This role ensures a positive dining experience for residents by following safe food-handling practices, maintaining a clean work environment, and collaborating closely with dietary staff to support resident health, satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In the absence of the Chef and/or Certified Dietary Manager, supervises the culinary center’s employees.
  • Handles and stores all food according to facility procedures,safe food handling guidelines,stateand federal requirements.
  • Follow standardized recipes.
  • Prepare foods that correspond to themenu cyclesdeveloped by Registered Dietitians.
  • Cooks or prepares palatable,attractiveand nutritionally adequate meals in quantities that are served at the proper temperatures and within theappropriate timeframes.
  • Usesfood supplies and equipment in an efficient and economic manner to prevent waste.
  • Prepares andmaintainsa supply of food alternates to accommodate resident choices and refusals of food served.
  • Supervises culinarystaffregardingfood storage, food preparation, tray assembly, and cleaning.
  • Operates institutional food preparation equipment according to manufacturer and supervisory direction.Follows proper cleaning and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Inspectstrays following meal service tomonitorresident acceptance of menu items.Reportsfindings to Certified DietaryManager.
  • Handles, stores and disposes of raw and prepared food itemsin accordance withcompany and facility procedures and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Alwaysmaintainsfood service equipment in clean and safe conditionaccording to facility procedures.Reports all equipment problems to supervisor promptly.
  • Alwaysmaintainsfood service workspaces in clean and safeconditionaccording to facility procedures.Cleans workspaces and cooking and serving equipment according to department procedures.
  • Reportany signs of rodent or pests to supervisorimmediately.
  • Communicateswith supervisor throughout shift to maximize resident satisfaction.
  • Assists the Culinary Managerwithstatinspection preparation.Attends survey training and interacts with surveyors as instructed.
  • Attends in-service education programs as assigned.Applies knowledge tojob.
  • Interprets Company policy and makes decisions based on the application of those policies where applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
