Job summary

Whispering Creek Senior Living is seeking a dedicated Cook to independently prepare meals and manage food production, supporting the Sous or Executive Chef in upholding high quality and safety standards for residents.

This full-time role requires at least 18 years old and 2+ years cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant settings, with strong knowledge of food safety; ServeSafe preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines.
  • State food-handling regulations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Experience operating kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.).
  • ServeSafe or equivalent certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals for residents with attention to quality and presentation.
  • Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dining needs of residents or to improve recipes.
  • Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving.
  • Identify food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and report to the supervisor.
  • Participate in new menu and special menu planning.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas.
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control.
  • Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery.
  • Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed.
  • Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances.
  • Assist in recording Ready-to-Use foods into the TELS website. Record temperatures in cooler, freezer and dish machine.
  • Report on-the-job injuries to supervisor as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and operational information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

  • Assist in the recording of Ready – to – Use – food items into the TELS website. Three items should be recorded for every meal.
  • Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website.
  • Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines
  • State food-handling and kitchen regulations
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.
  • Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
